I have a school assignment to go to an African Market. I had this ridiculous idea that this project would be fun. On the contrary, it was one of the most depressing things I have ever witnessed in my life. It was a space no bigger than a dorm room. And while they did have food, it was very overpriced. There were 2 men and a woman with a baby in there. I could feel her oppression filling the room. She was dressed in what I suppose was traditional African clothing caring around her young baby. I was talking to the owner, and he was nice, but understandably annoyed by my questions. I asked him when his busiest time of year and he replied, and I quote, "Now, when you kids have your school assignment." That broke my heart, it was easily the saddest thing I have heard in quite some time.
Nothing has every made me want to stay in school more.
